Course objectives
The subject familiarizes students with the higher units of the phonic system with special emphasis on the function of the phonic material. It provides explanation to features typical for connected speech and basic differences between English and Czech. It offers theoretical background to pronunciation focused speaking and listening practice.

  • Syllables (strong, weak).Word stress (simple words, complex words, compounds and phrases). Weak and strong forms. Rhythm. Linking. Assimilation. Elision. Intonation (form, function).
