Course objectives
The purpose of the course is to develop all four skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing. The initial level of the course is upper-intermediate (CEFR B2), the aim of the course is extension of accuracy, fluency and the register in use of the English language. Through the analysis of the language for teaching purposes, the students will shift their roles - from being the users of the language towards the language facilitators. At the end of the course, after 3 semesters of the Practical Language course, the students are expected to achieve advanced level (CEFR C1).
Learning outcomes
The student will be able to actively use the English language in avariety of communication situations on CEFR level B2-C1. The student will be able to not only fluently express themselves, but also monitor for accuracy. The student will be able to use the right register (formal and informal) in spoken and written language. The student will be able to realistically evaluate their proficiency level and work individually on improvement. The student will be able to individually work with printed and electronic sources for further improvement.
Syllabus
  • The students will cover U1-4 from the book New English File Upper Intermediate. Other additional materials will be used to support and further develop the topics and content of the corresponding units.

Teaching methods
Students will take part in pair-work, group-work, class discussions and online forums and will be expected to give a presentation and write one written assignment.Students will do independent work outside of class using e-learning (Mood-link)and reading.
Assessment methods
Attendance is important but not required. The students are expected to catch up with the work load on their own if they miss the classes. The continuous assessment will consist of unit tests, one progress test and forum participation (one original entry and one response for each topic is recommended). Students must also hand in one writing assignment and give one in-class oral presentation. Students must acquire a minimum of 70 percent from the final credit test. A final speaking test will be administered; the students will address the textbook based topics. It will be evaluated according to a speaking evaluation rubric. In order to pass the course, the students must achieve 70 percent on the final test and the speaking test.
