Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain (1) basic knowledge about problematics of general zoology; (2) structure and funtion of the animal cell; (3) recognize particular characteristic tissues and organs; (4) demonstrate acquirement of skills necessary during work with microscope; (5) skills necessary for drawing record; (6) creating generally positive attempt to autopsy studies is very important too.
Syllabus

  • 2. Observation and drawing of free animal cells, esp. erythrocytes and leukocytes of vertebrates – permanent microscopical preparations of blood
  • 3. Colouring of protozoans (Paramecium caudatum) after death
  • 4. Observation and drawing of permanent and native microscopical preparations – different shape of cells, and cell inclusions
  • 5. Preparation, observation and drawing of native microscopical preparation of polythene chromosomes
  • 6. Observation and drawing of permanent microscopical preparations – types of epitethelium according shape of cells
  • 7. Observation and drawing of permanent microscopical preparations – types of epitethelium according number of layers
  • 8. Observation and drawing of permanent microscopical preparations – kinds of epitethelium according funtion
  • 9 Observation and drawing of permanent microscopical preparations of fibrous tissues
  • 10. Observation and drawing of permanent microscopical preparations of cartilaginous tissues

Teaching methods
Laboratory practices - students alone under supervision of tutor observe and draw available permanent microscopical preparations.
Assessment methods
Requirements for credit: active participation on practices (every absence is required to be compensated), final presentation of completed exercise book or set of documents with work sheets, original drawings and successful passing of practical identification examination (students will be able, from photographs of observed microscopical preparations, to identify, which kinds of tissues they represent).
Language of instruction
Czech
