Course objectives
The seminar focuses on the interpretation of selected works from the Czech poetry and prose in the years 1918-1945. Students will get an insight into the literary trends and movements in the period in question, as well as into the specific nature of their poetics. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities, significant for that particular period. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more efficiently.

  • 1. General introduction to the interpretation of a literary work. 2. Interpretation of selected pieces of poetry. 3. Interpretation of selected pieces of prose.

Teaching methods
In the form of a seminar (interpretations and analysis of selected works), students will get a deeper insight into the literary trends and movements of the Czech poetry and prose in the years 1918-1945, as well as into the specific nature of their poetics. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities of Czech poetry and prose, significant for the particular period. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more efficiently. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in the contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
Assessment methods
Type of course: seminar. Type of completion: credit. Credit requirements: oral presentation and active participation(students can be three times absent).
