Course objectives
The purpose of the subject is syntheses of the various knowledge of the contemporary Czech language that the students have win studying morphology, lexicology and word forming.
Students analyse written and spoken texts and after finishing the course they should be able:
- to find morphological, lexical and word forming phenomena in the texts;
- to recognise mistakes in the texts;
- to analyse morphological changes of the word in the continuous text and sentence (for example compare to the syntactical function);
- to correct mistakes in texts and to explain them.
Syllabus
  • 1. Word meaning. Changes of the word meaning in text and context. Synonyms and antonyms in texts.
  • 2. Semantic relations of exical units in the text. Hyperonym, hyponym and text coherence.
  • 3. The semantic of the word and word classes. Function of word classes in the sentence.
  • 4. The transposition among word classes. Transposition and syntactical function of the word classes.
  • 5. The origin of the word and the word-building, word-formation. Problems with the recognising the foundation word for word-formation of another word. Word-formation and formants (suffix, prefix, termination...). Productivity of the formants.
  • 6. The structure of the word and its connection with the word-formation and with morphological characteristic. Problems with analysis of word-building.
  • 7. Word-formation and lexicalunits in the written and spoken texts, comparison. Criteria of the valuation of them.
  • 8. Grammatical mistakes, correction of them. Morphological phenomena in the written and spoken texts, criteria of their valuation.

Teaching methods
A seminar, active analytical students´ work in the analysis of texts, active synthetic students´ work in the interpretation of linguistic phenomena, discussion about the professional course issues, using of problem method and controlled discussion.
Assessment methods
Seminary course
Ending: Credit
Credit requirements: Written test in the end of the term (practical exercises). The test includes cca 30 short questions focused to elementary language phenomena. To be successfull student has to answer 80 % of them.
