Course objectives
Topics from Czech literature of the 19th century are composed as selected insights into the problematic nature of the national literature in the period of the Enlightenment and National Revival. Within the discipline, the most signifigant personalities of the literature in the Czech lands are introduced and students learn about the major works of individual writers, also in the broader cultural context of the studied period.

Teaching methods
In the form of a lecture, students will use and enhance their knowledge of literary trends and movements in Czech literature in the given period. They will be able to identify, analyze and evaluate work of outstanding personalities of the literary process. They will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more effectively. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
Assessment methods
Students will present outcomes of their work in written form which will help them to enhance their ability to think critically and develop their individual style. Emphasis is put on students’ ability to defend and formulate their views with precision and professional insight. The seminar will be concluded by a credit. Credit reguirements also contain a written reflection (about three Word pages long) dealing with one of the topics covered in lectures, based on additional reference resources and fiction.
