Course objectives
The course focuses on teaching Czech in secondary schools, the attention concentrates, however, on the sequence between the second stage of basic schools and secondary schools, comparison of the language teaching problems at various types of secondary schools. Undergraduates become acquainted with different language teaching methods, including critical thinking method, with the possibility of using different teaching forms. A part of the seminar programme is a critical analysis of the existing Czech language textbooks.
Syllabus
  • 1 Aim of the Czech language teaching in secondary schools in sequence of the knowledge and skills acquired in basic schools. 2 Relationship between language, stylistic and literary teaching. 3 Didactic principles in language teaching in secondary schools, practical examples. 4 Content of language teaching at the individual school stages. Language teaching topics in various types of secondary schools. Relationship between practical skills and theoretical knowledge, a measure of their proportion in the Czech language teaching (comparison of e.g. grammar schools and vocational schools). 5 Knowledge, skills, habits developed in language teaching in various types of secondary schools. 6 Teaching methods used in the Czech language teaching in secondary schools. The forms of Czech language teaching in secondary schools. The topics suitable for Czech language teaching in secondary schools and others. 7 Teaching aids. Evaluation of the Czech language textbooks for secondary schools. 8 Teachers preparation for the Czech language lesson.
