Course objectives
At the end of the course, students will be able to: 1. identify main tendencies and developmental trends in Czech literary studies of 21st century, 2. characterize crucial pieces of contemporary literary history and literary studies.
Syllabus
  • 1. outline of the development of Czech literary studies after the Velvet Revolution in November 1989 and contemporary trends in Czech literary studies of 21st century, 2. overview of crucial pieces of contemporary literary history and literary theory.

Teaching methods
Consultations and seminars. During consultations and seminars, students will develop their knowledge of literary studies and also skills of leading a dialogue with technical texts. They will be given opportunities to discuss issues of contemporary literary studies on the basis of their own reading.
Assessment methods
Credit. Credit requirements – students are obliged to participate actively in classes and hand in a seminar paper: critical review of a chosen contemporary publication about literary studies, published as a book after 2000.
