Course objectives
The aim of the course is to create the conditions for students to develop their own study strategies, how to further develop their didactic skills independently and how to set partial and fundamental goals. Emphasis is placed on the communicative approach to teaching Czech.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
1. understand the concepts of alternative methods, critical thinking methods;
2. use alternative methods in practice - the aim of the methods is to develop active, effective learning;
3. use critical thinking methods in teaching Czech language, especially language and style at primary school.
Emphasis is placed on teaching the core subject areas of composition, morphology and spelling from a communicative perspective.
Students will also be introduced to the possibilities of using the Czech National Corpus in language teaching.
The teaching methods presented are in accordance with the requirements of the Framework Curriculum of the Primary Education.
Syllabus
  • 1. The content of language teaching in primary school.
  • 2. Methods and strategies for effective learning (methods of preparation and organization of teaching).
  • 3. Methods of the evocation phase of teaching (key words, paired discussion, etc.)
  • 4. Methods of the awareness phase (discussion web, peer learning, etc.)
  • 5. Reflection phase methods (mind map, free writing, etc.).
  • 6. Creating an environment for critical thinking methods in the classroom.
  • 7. Possibilities of using the Czech National Corpus in language teaching.

Teaching methods
consultations, active discussion of the topics discussed, presentations --- application of KM methods and didactic principles, teaching strategies, home preparation
Assessment methods
Self-assessment, peer review, valuation, recommending, questioning. Distinguishing between description and interpretation (observation and evaluation). The course ends with an examination. Participation is compulsory. Homework is required during the semester and presentation of this work in seminar.
