Course objectives
Students will understand the process of gradual subdivision of Slavic languages from the Slavonic language and will acquire a basic idea of the development of the spelling and morphology system of Czech and other Slavic languages.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the students will be able: 1. to understand the process of gradual separating of the individual Slavonic/Slavic languages from the Common Slavonic/Proto-Slavonic language; 2. to explain the sound features of Czech and other Slavonic languages as a result of the historical development of the Common Slavonic/Proto-Slavonic language.
Syllabus
  • 1. Classification of the Indo-European languages, the Slavic languages in the group of the Indo-European languages. 2. Development of the phonology and morphology system of the Czech language compare to the Indo-European proto-language and compare to the contemporary Slavic languages. 3. The syntax of the Church Slavonic.

A lecture combined with subsequent discussions on the professional issues of the course.
Assessment methods
For successful completion of the course must be: 1. comply written test, where students are free answers the questions. The test is evaluated; 2. final project seminar - essay on a given topic; 3. Study of suggested literature. Detailed requirements are available in each term in Study Materials of the course in the Information System MU, the folder Learning Materials.
