Course objectives
1. The subject is focused on the fixing of the fundamental knowledge and skills of the linguistic disciplines.
2. Students will be able to explain basic terminology of various spheres of Czech language and to apply them in work with pupils of the lower secondary school.
3. Students have to fix the specific terminology, to explain relationships among the linguistic disciplines and put the knowledge and skills to the connection in the intersubject point of view.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the students will be able:
(a) to analyse the language means of various level in the text;
(b) to evaluate text in the whole after analysis of the language elements, i.e. the structure of the text, stylish value and function of the language elements in the text;
(c) to choose the suitable text for verification of the language phenomena;
(d) to use the language parsing in the teaching of the Czech language;
(e) and inter alia: link these skills with reading literacy.
Syllabus
  • 1. Classification of the Czech sounds, principles of the pronunciation of the Czech and foreign words.
  • 2. Some difficult phenomena in the declension of the Czech and loan substantives, in both apelativa and propria.
  • 3. Types of the pronouns, the declension of the pronouns; some problems of the identification of the types of pronouns.
  • 4. Numerals, the types of numerals. Declension, orthography.
  • 5. Synthetic and analytic verbal forms, finite and infinite verbal forms. Forming of the verbal forms.
  • 6. Verbal forms and their function in sentences.
  • 7. Word-forming formants and word-forming procedures in Czech. The meaning of the word-forming formants and productivity of them.
  • 8. Compound words in the text. Hybrid compound word in Czech. Word-forming analysis.
  • 9. The morphemic structure of the word. Word-forming and morphological analysis.
  • 10. The syntactical function of the word classes. Expressing the syntactic relations and meanings in a sentence by lexical and grammatical elements.
  • 11. Words of various layers of vocabulary, the concurrence of them. Using various stylistic synonyms in the text. Cause and consequence of the connection of antonyms in the text.
  • 12. Orthographical problems in the text, their explanation. Mistakes correction and the cause of the mistakes.

Teaching methods
- Individual study of the linguistic literature, individual work with the text according to the tasks;
- analysis of the text, identification of some language phenomena in the text;
- detail description and explaining the language phenomena in the text;
- argumentation, giving reasons and explaining the language elements and relations in the text;
- constructivist methods;
- cooperative learning.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements:
- systematic work at the seminary;
- mastering of two checking tests in the semester;
- mastering of the final test; it shall verify the knowledge of the topics of syllabi; students have to gain 80 % of the whole range of points.
