Course objectives
The aim of the course is to learn another foreing language to such an extent (B1) that the student is able to communicate and understand a specialised written text and present the structure of their future dissertation in the foreign language.
Syllabus
  • This course makes part of the common core subjects of the doctoral study programme and is mandatory for all students who can choose from English, German, Russian or French. The aim of the course is to cover the following areas and tasks: 1. Read specialised literature related to the field of study (cca 100 pages) 2. Cover the key terminology in the foreign language. 3. Improve basic academic and linguistic skills, according to the Common European Framework of Reference at least B1 level of receptive skills. 4. Write a structured CV, an annotation of covered literature - specialised texts, excerpt of the dissertation, general information about students current employment, specialisation, doctoral studies and professional interest. Written part of the exam: at least a week before the oral examination students submit the following materials by email: - annotation of covered literature - specialised text including bibliography, information about the theme of the dissertation - structured CV - list of vocabulary covering key terminology of the field studied. Each item should be at least 1 page long (i.e. 1 800 characters) in the electronic version. Oral examination: Students present their future dissertation, and demonstrate their knowledge of key terminology in the chosen language. They also demonstrate the ability to communicate and understand a specialised text, and are able to present the structure of their future dissertation in the foreign language of their choice.

Coures requirements: students submit required materials (annotation of covered literature - of a specialised text including bibliography - information about the topic of their dissertation - structured CV - vocabulary list of the key terminology). Oral examination - presentation of students´dissertation in the chosen foreign language.
