Course objectives
The students will acquire the basic overview of the life and activities of Czechs in Russia, the importance of Czech colonists for the development of the Russian economy, they will create a basic overview of the the Russian Czechs´ role and share in the creation and restoration of Czechoslovakia.
Syllabus
  • Emigration of Czechs to Russia, the settlement and economic development, the establishment of hop-growing and beer industry, education and culture, World War I., personalities of the foreign resistance, the Czechoslovak legions, the emergence of Bolshevism, collectivization of agriculture and the formation of cooperatives, persecution of Czechs and Gulags, Ukrainian nationalism, the events of World War II. and the creation of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps, re-immigration to the homeland, Chernobyl Czechs, compatriots´ associations.
