Course objectives
The aim of this course is to obtain a clear knowledge foundations of quantum physics and statistical physics. Emphasis is placed on the logical construction of the science disciplines and to acquire knowledge needed for the follow-up lectures covering topics solids.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student should know:  Basic thematic laws: quantum and statistical physics.  Describe simple thought experiments and the relationship of the subject matter to practical applications.  Calculate simple application examples.
Syllabus
  • I. Quantum mechanics. Experimental assumptions of quantum mechanics, the key experiments. Basic principles of quantum mechanics, their physical interpretation and the most important consequences. The concept of the state   quantum and classical mechanics, time evolution of the state equations of motion and their importance in physical theory. Operators, Schrödinger's equation. Physical quantities in quantum mechanics, their measurements, uncertainties session. Wave-particle dualism and its physical interpretation, deBroglie's wave, wave clue. Classically inexplicable macroscopic phenomena, manifestations of macroscopic quantum properties of microbjects. Free particles. Reflection and pass the potential barrier. Harmonic oscillator (classical and quantum description), anihilation and creation operators. The most important applications. Hydrogen atom, multiple elektron states. Spin. Zeeman's phenomenon. The principle of the identity of particles, the Pauli's exclusion principle.
  • II. Statistical physics Methods of study macroscopic bodies, thermodynamics and statistical approach. The possibility of microscopic description of macroscopic bodies, the functions of a division, time and statistical středování, associated with description of thermodynamics. The statistical distribution, statistical sum, entropy, enthalpy and free energy. Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution, physical importance of limits, the correlation between applications.
