Course objectives
After completing this course the student will be able to: know the requirements for chemical composition of medical supplies;
know the physical requirements of medical supplies;
use the basic types of medical supplies;
explain the advantages and disadvantages of the use of health impact of materials and their impact on human health;
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students should know and be able to:
- Understand the relationships between living tissues and the specifics of materials of different chemical composition
- to orientate in the current trends and trends of material engineering development in connection with healthcare needs
- know and demonstrate the basic properties of selected basic materials of medical devices used in medicine

  • prosthetic materials (prosthetic legs, hands)
  • Materials used for dental fillings
  • Modern medical materials:
  • Titanium and its alloys
  • Surgical steel and other steels
  • materials for the production of bone substitutes
  • the artificial skin
  • materials for the manufacture of vascular grafts
  • "artificial heart"
  • "artificial kidney"
