Course objectives
The course introduces the issue of foreign language teaching in vocational education. We will focus on the specifics of professionally oriented foreign language teaching and the diversity of target groups. We will show important aspects of foreign language teaching in vocational education, which we will illustrate with practical examples. We will introduce the relevant strategic and curricular documents.
Learning outcomes
The graduate can:
- analyze the situation of teaching/learning a language/languages in a professional context (needs, goals, limitations, costs),
- compile a program adapted to this learning context,
- orient him/herself in European strategic documents and national curriculum documents for language education.

Syllabus
  • Specifics of professionally oriented foreign language teaching:
  • target group and its needs (heterogeneity), motivation and goals,
  • organizational security (group size, teaching frequency),
  • material security of teaching (teaching materials),
  • the role of the teacher and professional language competence.
  • Planning and management of professional language teaching:
  • innovative methods and forms of professional language teaching (motivation and activation of pupils/students, project teaching, ...),
  • specifics of face-to-face and online teaching.

Teaching methods
Teacher's presentation, discussion, document analysis, case studies, individual and group work.
Assessment methods
Active participation in seminars and self-study with the support of IS-interactive curriculum.
Colloquium - group task: assignment of a specific target group and teaching context, subsequent analysis, design of a teaching plan and its presentation in plenary, feedback.

- designing a specific procedure for creating a foreign language teaching course (needs analysis, data collection, specification of goals);
- design of a teaching plan with specification of teaching objectives (10 hours).
