Course objectives
The course introduces the position of foreign languages on the job market in the Czech Republic. As part of the course, we will present multilingualism as a possible competitive advantage, further topically wanted positions for applicants with knowledge of AJ, NJ, FJ and RJ and others foreign languages. The student will gain an overview of language policy and further education of employees of selected companies.
Learning outcomes
Graduate understands:
- the context of teaching professional foreign languages,
- the current situation on the job market,
- demand from employers,
- the language policy of selected international companies.

Syllabus
  • Labor market in the Czech Republic, demand and supply of jobs with knowledge of foreign languages.
  • Multilingualism as a competitive advantage.
  • Work in Czech, foreign, multinational companies in the Czech Republic, specifics of the situation in JMK.
  • Chambers of Commerce (French-Czech Chamber of Commerce, Czech-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Russian-Czech Mixed Chamber of Commerce).
  • Language policy of companies, further education of employees.
  • Foreign workers in the Czech Republic, intercultural working environment of multinational companies.

Teaching methods
Presentation, document analysis, discussion.

Active participation in seminars and discussions, seminar paper/project.
