Course objectives
To develop the knowledge of the language system (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, skills, functions) on B1 level according to the CEFR;
To promote the development of oral performance and communicative skills of the students on B1 level according to the CEFR;
To develop the written perfomance and reading comprehension on B1 level according to the CEFR;
To develop listening comprehension on B1 level according to the CEFR;
Syllabus
  • The basic study material is New English File Upper-Intermediate, Units 1 and 2: Grammar: Question formation (revision); working out meaning from context;
  • Auxiliary verbs, the…the… + comparatives;
  • Present Perfect (simple and continuous);
  • Using adjectives as nouns, adjective order;
  • Narrative tenses, past perfect continuous;
  • Adverbs and adverbial phrases;
  • Topics: Personality;
  • Illness and treatment;
  • Speaking about the future;
  • Clothes and fashion;
  • Air travel

Class discussions, presentations, homework, self-study, online discussion
Assessment methods
Continuous assessment: students actively participate in seminars and do the assigned tasks, work in an onilne course in VLE Moodle/IS, for which they gain points. Part of the assessment are also final test and oral interview.
