Course objectives
Students will be able to creatively apply variety of approaches, teaching forms and methods while developing readership and the interpretative and creative skills of their students.
Learning outcomes
While directly working with literary texts, students will acquire the appropriate approaches to literary texts and other areas of study. Students will be able to critically assess the teaching materials and create their own.
Syllabus
  • 1. Overview of the variety of current reading-books and other teaching materials. Concepts of reading-books, contents. 2. Didactic tools of reading-books, the characteristics of management features, methodical manuals solutions, etc. 3. The adaptation of teaching materials for a specific concept and an educational strategy of a course. 4. Preparatory (complex) text interpretation as the basis for education. 5. Literary-educational (didactic) interpretation of an artistic text – working with poetry, working with prosaic genres during the literary education lessons (application of basic interpretative methods). 6. Didactic interpretation of epic text (example of the process). 7. Didactic interpretation of lyrical text (example of the process). 8. Specifics of working with a dramatic, artistic-educational and educational text. Working with information and with sources of information. 9. The description and process of literary aesthetic activities (in regards to specific texts) – reproductive activities (reproduction, children’s recitation, dialogue, dramatization). 10. The description and process of literary aesthetic activities (in regards to specific texts) – productive activities (creativity, elements of creative drama, creative work with a literary character, composition, elements of creative writing). 11. Working with illustrations in literary education; children’s literature illustrators. 12. Children’s magazines – the possibilities of working with them in literary education.

Taught as: seminar Methods: direct active work with literary texts and other course content, discussion of professional course issues
Assessment methods
Completion: oral examination. Examination requirements: 1. Model lesson plan for a combined type of a literary education class (for the 4th or 5th class); 2. Students prove that they have a detailed knowledge of theoretical background of the subject. Detailed requirements related to the structure of the lesson plan and examination topics are asssigned at the beginning of the term. The examination has two parts: a written lesson plan and an oral examination which tests students knowledge of the theory. Detailed requirements are available in each term in Study Materials of the course in the Information System MU, the folder Learning Materials.
