Course objectives
Legal awareness is a necessity for every citizen, which in practice means that the citizen knows not only his duties but also his rights. Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to gain necessary information about the legal system in the Czech Republic, basic legal terms, statutory regulations including at the same time legal responsibility in the exercise of the medical profession. Emphasis is placed on the orientation in the legal environment, especially concerning the primary sources of medical law and their connection with the provision of health care, not detailed knowledge of the content.
Learning outcomes
The graduate of the course will understand the legal regulation concerning the provision of health services and the exercise of the medical profession in connection with general legal principles. They will understand the basics of selected judicial branches related to health law. He/she is deeply familiar with the legal issues encountered in providing health care. He/she can explain the patient's rights concerning the rights and duties of the healthcare professional. He/she understands and can adequately handle the patient's private data and patient health data.

  • Principles and concepts of law theory, sources of law
  • The legal system and legal branch in the Czech Republic
  • Legal norms and legal relations
  • Basic statutory regulations governing legal affairs related to the right to health care, its performance and responsibility for its provision (generally binding rules in health care, laws on health services and implementing decrees, legal liability of health professionals, keeping medical records, health and safety at work)
