Course objectives
Students of the course should know and work with information about the intervention and counseling of adults and seniors with sensory disabilities. Students will be able to recognize the underlying causes of visual impairment, defining appropriate limitations of visual functions and deduce possibilities of activating people.
Learning outcomes
The graduate will focus on the basic problems of sensory impairment, including their testing too. The graduate will know the possibilities of rehabilitation of people with sensory disabilities; He / she will be able to contact the client with social rehabilitation organizations; He / she will properly communicate with people with sensory disabilities, expertly accompany them and recommend a suitable compensation aid and check the work with the aid. He will also be able to perform reeducation of the eye and the development of compensatory mechanisms. The analyst can assess the suitability of the environment (int x ext) in which the blind or the visually impaired people moves and suggest further modifications.

  • Determination of sensory disability focusing on the most common causes of visual and hearing impairment.
  •  Impact of sensory impairment on the quality of life of adults and seniors.
  •  Influence of sensory impairment on human personality. Disability as a difficult life situation.
  • Disability Acceptance.
  •  Rehabilitation of people with sensory impairment (social, working, visual).
  •  Reeducation of vision, visual therapy, hearing loss.
  •  Advice and interventions in the work of adults and seniors with sensory disabilities.
  •  Special aids for people with sensory disabilities and their use.
  •  Principles of proper communication with persons with sensory disabilities, communication systems.
  •  Fundamentals of the Czech sign language, enlarged black print, reading and writing of Braille.
  •  Principles of safe guiding of adults and seniors with severe visual impairment.
  •  Individual movement and orientation in the area of ​​low vision people and the blind.
  •  Identification and removal of barriers for people with sensory disabilities in public spaces and interiors.
