Course objectives
The aim of the course is to enhance knowledge concerning support of adults with disabilities and disadvantages, people in difficult life situations, seniors and their families, acquire information about particular approaches to counseling and guidance of these target groups, about support of communication and utilization of these competence in counseling and intervention. The seminars emphasize active participation of students. It is based on the connection of theoretical knowledge and practical skills and experience.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is able to:
- recognise and describe the needs of people with disabilities and disadvantages in different life situations and perceive the differencies in the communication;
- choose appropriate strategies for adults with disabilities and disadvantages aiming to their support;
- prepare appropriate intervention and support plan;
- perceive and understand one's own needs and fundamentals of work in helping professions.

  • 1. Interpersonal communication, communication between and with people with disabilities and disadvantage
  • 2. Therapeutic and other approaches for adult people with disabilities
  • 3. Counselling, interview in counselling
  • 4. Case and family conference as a possibility of working with people with disabilities and their families
  • 5. Support of an adult person with disabilities in activities of daily living
  • 6. Support of adults in difficult situations
  • 7. Concepts supporting people with disabilities, disadvantage and their relatives (multisensoric stimulation - Konzept Basale Stimulation, snoezelen, validation according to N. Feil)
