Prerequisites
Intermediate knowledge of Russian language – level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (attending of a two term course in bachelor studies).

Course objectives
At the end of the course the student will be able to speak on several topics, analyze Russian special text on the B2 level. In writing, the student will be able to summarize the text, write key words, depict the main idea, and express their opinion.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the student will be able to: understand spoken LSP texts at B2 level of the CEFR; understand to written LSP texts at B2 level of the CEFR; produce an informal email; produce an argumentative essay; give an oral presentation on a specialist topic; show a good command of selected grammar structures at B2 level of the CEFR; use selected specialist terminology with natural and sophisticated control.
Syllabus
  • 1) Development of speaking skills enabling students to deal with common conversation topics (leisure time, place of living, getting around a city, travelling) and about issues related to their study (university, educational systems, student’s subjects of study, bachelor’s and master’s thesis). 2) Development of reading skills in order to enable students to comprehend complicated general and specialized scientific texts. 3) Systematic development of vocabulary in general and academic level as well as in basic specialized terminology. 4) Development of listening skills, especially in terms of general language. 5) Revision and development of grammar awareness in respect to features of a formal style. 6) Development of writing skills; students should produce a structured CV, scholarship application, formal correspondence (request for sending some materials, expressing thanks, conference invitation) and brief summary of a scientific article.

Teaching methods
Listening exercises (with accompanying questions and ensuing discussion), reading comprehension of written texts dealing with popular science themes as well as specific scientific texts, translations into Czech language, development of curricula, formal letter writing, exercises in basic grammar within scientific content and style, structure, expansion of casual as well as scientific vocabulary, working with dictionaries, casual and scientific conversation. Mini-presentations: field of study.
Assessment methods
Language exercise, level B2. Active participation in teaching, completion of tasks given out during the semester (10 points), creation of portfolio of 4 tasks (listening+summary, reading of a expert text + key words and summary, glossary of terms, comprising a motivational letter or a letter containing an offer of collaboration) (50 points), the course will be concluded by an assessed project presentation (40 points). Pass mark: 65% (65 points out of 100).
