- Course objectives
- Its aim is to improve and extend basic skills essential for comprehending various scientific sources of information, and develop the listening, speaking and writing skills, both in general as well as specialized Russian language.
- Learning outcomes
- By the end of the course, the student will be able to:
- understand spoken LSP texts at B1 level of the CEFR;
- understand written LSP texts at B1 level of the CEFR;
- successfully participate in a spoken interaction dealing with relevant LSP issues at B1 level of the CEFR;
- show a good command of selected grammar structures at B1 level of the CEFR;
- use selected specialist terminology with natural and sophisticated control. - Syllabus
- General aims: 1) development of speaking skills (with regard to correct pronunciation) which enables students to talk about everyday topics and about issues related to their studies (particular subjects, examinations) 2) development of reading skills which helps students to comprehend general and specialized scholarly texts in a hand-written as well as printed form 3) development of listening skills so that the students were able to understand common everyday conversations 4) development of writing skills so that the students were able to produce hand-written texts and requests, letters and congratulations 5) deepen and strengthen the knowledge of grammar and basic features of formal style.

- Teacher instruction; group discussions; group project; listening, reading, writing; short oral presentations; grammar and vocabulary practice activities.
- Assessment methods
- To successfully complete the course, students must have attendance (absence of only 2 hours), active participation and completion of homework, as well as pass the continuous assessment (70%) and the final oral exam (30%). Continuous assessment: vocabulary lists, independent grammar practice, work with audio and video materials, mini-presentations, writing assignments, group work, activity preparation. The student needs to reach a total of 65 % and over provided they submit all parts of the continuous assessment in order to sit the final exam. Oral examination (30%): presentation on the assigned topic + discussion. The final mark is calculated from a maximum of 100 points.
