Course objectives
At the end of the course students will be able not only to understand setting of the origin of the Scripture and handing over of the religious traditions of Israel and the early Church but also on the basis of the acquired knowledge to explain the query of Canon, inspiration and the question of the veracity of the Scripture, to describe the history of exegesis and the interpretation of the Scripture in the Church, and to inform about the main Church documents related to biblical studies.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to: - describe the history of the canon and history of the text of the Bible - summarize important features of the major periods of the history of the Old and New Testaments - compare and highlight the differences between the various social and religious groups in Palestine in the New Testament period. - clarify the question of the inspiration of the Bible.
Syllabus
  • Key concepts and terms, the origin of the Scripture, the handing over of the religious traditions of Israel and the early Church, biblical languages, the formation of biblical canon and the history of the text, Canon, apocrypha, inspiration, the question of the veracity of the Scripture, the history of exegesis and the interpretation of the Scripture in the Church, relevant Church documents.
