Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able not only to understand the studied texts of the Old Testament but also on the basis of the acquired knowledge about the methods of the interpretation to explain the other text of the Old Testament.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to: - summarize the history of the interpretation of the Old Testament - identify and describe the individual steps of the historical-critical method of biblical exegesis - apply individual steps of the historical-critical method to specific texts of the Old Testament - analyse and explain the selected texts of the Old Testament.
Syllabus
  • History of the interpretation of Sacred Scripture. Hermeneutics of Sacred Scripture. Methods of exegesis of the Old Testament. Explanation of selected texts from Old Testament (historical and wisdom books): Genesis 1:1-2:4; Exodus 20:1-17; Psalm 130.
