Course objectives
This first theoretical linguistic input deals with linguistics as a part of philology and social sciences. It presents the history of linguistic research and attempts to describe language as an instrument of human communication (from the ancient Greek to structuralism and transfomational generative grammar), traditional linguistic disciplins (phonology, morphology, syntax, lexicology, linguistic of discourse) and the latest methodology of linguistic research . the corpus linguistics. The students learn basic terminology in both czech and german.
