Course objectives
At the end of the tuition students are able to distinguish specialised texts according to different criteria such as abstractness of the text, outer language form and partner of the utterance. Students are also able to use typical syntactic and morphological features while creating specialised texts. They can apply language means typical for specialised texts in tuition.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the term, students will be able to - describe the specifics of technical texts compared to non-technical texts
- explain these specifics
- use this knowledge for their own work in school
Syllabus
  • Functional stylistics, functional styles – outline, technical language, technical vocabulary, semantic particularity of technical vocabulary compared to general vocabulary, technical vocabulary expansion with terms, metaphors, borrowings and forming of technical vocabulary according to given word-constituting patterns. Text structure, syntactic and lexical-semantic coherence, syntactic and morphological particularities of technical texts, horizontal and vertical structuring, kinds and types of technical texts, types of discourse, semantic elements of technical text, selected morphological and syntactic features and possibilities of their practice and acquirement.
