Charakteristika indoevropského prajazyka. Časové a teritoriální dělení němčiny. Stará horní němčina, systém starohornoněmeckých samohlásek a souhlásek, starohornoněmecká deklinace a konjugace. Střední horní němčina, změny ve vokalickém a konsonantickém systému. Vývoj středohornoněmeckého morfologického systému. Počátky a vývoj písemnictví do roku 1350. Raná nová horní němčina, jazykové změny, Lutherův překlad bible. Vývoj německého jazyka v 17.- 19. století. Němčina 20. století, národní varianty, dialekty.
