Course objectives
The main objective of this course is to discover the most frequent word formation patterns of German, to describe them and compare with equivalents in other languages. At the end of the course students know how to find the word formation patterns according to their frequency and structure. They are able to analyse and describe them and to comment how they can be revealed in texts. As the students have to do research on context bound lexical units, they also acquire these units in chunks. Students of this course also gain knowledge in using the parallel corpus InterCorp and the German corpus DeReKo.
Topics for the summer term 2015: The most frequent compounds of German nouns (ending with -tag, -jahr, -mann, -uhr etc.), their context and counterparts in other languages.
