Course objectives
Participation in the seminar is not tied to any special requirements. In the seminar, a representative selection of essential literary texts written in German from the period will be presented and analyzed. In order to make the seminar as practical as possible, mainly short literary texts will be discussed. More extensive, epochdefining literary works will be presented using text samples. The main objective of the seminar is to convey the most relevant works included in the canon of literature after 1900 and to encourage one´s own reading.
Learning outcomes
The students will be able to identify and analyze the important works for each of the twelve lecture chapters on German language literature of the 20th century. Using the example of the literary works discussed, the students will be able to justify why these texts are formative for the epoch and how they reflect the main charakteristics of the respective cultural, political and cultural development. The seminar participants will be able to develop strategies for dealing with a literary work in school lessons.
