Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students of foreign language teaching the integrated language didactics, which enables the teaching of individual foreign languages to build on the knowledge of other languages and develop intercultural competence. Topics: Multilingualism, multilingualism: definitions and anchoring in SERR methodological approaches to the development of multilingualism and intercultural communicative competence Application of methodological approaches in teaching and learning materials
Learning outcomes
The student at the end of the course will be able to: - identify the main features of multilingualism and intercultural competencies - explain the nature and objectives of integrated didactics - be able to apply the principles of integrated didactics and plural frameworks approaches and perceptions of REPA cultures to the practice of language teaching - be able to design and work with teaching materials in an integrated way approach to languages

  • Multilingualism or integrative didactics: language and education policy goals and their concretization in teaching for all pupils - Concept of Plural Approaches to Languages and Cultures is presented and illustrated with teaching materials - key language and education policy principles of the Council of Europe and the European Union - Reference Framework for Plural Approaches to Languages and Cultures* (REPA) - Project (duration 2020-2023) of the European Centre for Foreign Languages in Graz, which aims to formulate teacher competences for the use of plural approaches and to produce of exemplary materials for the development of these competencies in initial or in-service training

Teacher's information
Michel Candelier is a professor emeritus at the University of Le Mans, France, and today devotes most of his research to the didactics of multilingualism and the conditions of its implementation. He has coordinated several European projects, including the Evlang (Éveil aux Langues) program funded by the European Commission and the CARAP/REPA (Cadre de référence pour les approches plurielles / Framework of reference for plural approaches to languages and cultures) program set up by the Council of Europe. He is the honorary president of several professional associations, such as the "International Society for Education and Linguistic and Cultural Diversity" (EDiLiC) and the International Federation of Foreign Language Teachers' Associations FIPLV.
