Participants of the course are expected to have at least B1+ on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Course objectives
The course aims at developing the students‘ ability to express themselves in the foreign language within a semiformal setting. In doing so, they practically apply their knowledge of language acquired in previous classes (by giving short presentations and contributing to the overall discussion in class). At the end of the course students should be able to talk on a subject of general interest and to comment on the contributions of other participants.
Syllabus
  • In the course the focus is on oral expression. Besides training expressions and figures of speech the course provides information about the Austrian, German and Swiss civilization. The participants of the course discuss current issues and prepare short presentations on specific themes out of the following topics: Celebrities, politics, history, civilization und culture, music, film.
Literature
  • Eigene Unterlagen aus Tageszeitungen und Internet. Die Materialien werden während des Kurses ausgeteilt oder auf eine Online-Plattform gestellt.
Teaching methods
Class discussion and short presentations.
Assessment methods
Oral presentations that demonstrate the students‘ ability to give an opinion on a common topic as well as active participation in the discussions. Some written homeworks (preparation)
