Prerequisites
A1 level of English. A1 student can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

Course objectives
The course mission is to help students achieve A2 level of English. A2 student can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

  • Topics (vocabulary, reading, listening, speaking, writing): 1: Education in the Czech Republic and abroad. Tertiary education; 2: Work and professional career. Jobs. Work experience; 3: Family, friends and relations. Daily routine; 4: Travelling. Shopping. Cooking, food and restaurants; 5: Weather and countries; Grammar: Tenses (present simple and present continuous, past simple and past continuous, will, going to, present perfect simple), Modals (can, must, have to...), Articles, Prepositions, Countables/uncountables, Adverbs of Frequency, etc.

Teaching methods
Practical language course: pair-work, class discussions, role-play, home and in-class reading, grammar and vocabulary practice, mini-presentations, on-line learning.
Assessment methods
Continuous assessment. Final A2-level test. In order to be credited, the student must successfully pass the final A2 test(listening, reading, vocabulary and grammar). Pass mark = 70%.
