Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: - explain individual ethical concepts
- understand the consequences and contradictions of ethical theories
Syllabus
  • 1)Introduction to the ethics. The importance of moral rules in the life of an individum and society as whole, myth and morality.
  • 2) Heraclitus.
  • 3) Democritus and Epicurus.
  • 4) Socrates and Sophists.
  • 5)Plato as theoretist of totalitarism.
  • 6) Aristotle - the meaning of freedom.
  • 7) Stoicism- problem of fatalism.
  • 8) The beginnings of christianity.
  • 9) Machiavelli and the philosophy of history. 10) Protestant ethics and the beginning of capitalism.
  • 11) T. Hobbes.
  • 12) J. J. Rousseau- private ownership as the cause of social evil
  • 13) I. Kant

Collective discussion, presentations, critical evaluation of individual authors.
Assessment methods
Credit seminar. The fulfilling requirements of this course are active participation in class and a written essay (atleast 5 pages).
