Prerequisites
The course is designed for students who are familiar with the so-called utopian literature (utopia, dystopia, science fiction, fantasy, horror, steam-, bio-, cyberpunk etc.).

Course objectives
The course offers an insight into bioethical issues through the use of a specific literary genre. It is therefore a supplement to the offered course in bioethics.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to identify and analyze bioethical problems and questions in their futurological perspective on the background of attractive literature.

  • Utopia as a specific genre; forms and forms of utopian literature
  • Classification of bioethical issues (3 pillars of bioethics)
  • Utopia and dystopia (bioethics in political context)
  • Bioethics in the work of K. Čapek
  • Robots and androids in Czech literature
  • Specific works of Czech and world utopian literature in bioethical perspective (sci-fi, fantasy, biopunk, steampunk etc.)
