Prerequisites
The aim of the course is to reflect on human psychology in the social context. Emphasis is on the thorough adoption and critical evaluation of sub-themes from the field of social psychology. The course also systematizes psychological knowledge about the influence of different social environments on individuals, their development and application in society. It directly connects psychology and social pedagogy and points out the determination of the human psyche in the context of different socio-cultural backgrounds, as well as possible ways to overcome this determination. The course follows up on the professional knowledge and skills from the study of psychological disciplines (basics of psychology, developmental psychology). Basic knowledge of contents of previous courses is a prerequisite for successful mastering of this disciplines.

Course objectives
• to understand and explain familiar experiments of social psychology (Asch, Milgram, Zimbardo) • to predict the behavior of people in small and large social groups • to use basic terms of social and intercultural psychology • to understand the influence of the social environment on the human psyche formation • to assess and critically evaluate diagnostic results (especially test ones) with regard to the cultural background of clients • to suggest possible interventions for a better understanding of different cultures

  • • Subject and methods of social psychology. • Social communication. Truth and lie in human communication. • Classical research in social psychology (Asch's study of conformity, Milgram's experiment, Zimbardo's prison experiment). • Attitudes and their formation. Ethnic prejudices and stereotypes • Social groups. • Affiliation, attraction, love, relationship. • Aggressive behavior. • Prosocial behavior. • What the intercultural psychology is dealing with - the basic definition of discipline • Relation between social and intercultural psychology • Basic terminology of intercultural psychology - culture, aculturation, accommodation, assimilation, amalgamation, cultural relativism, cultural egocentrism • Ways and methods of the examination of differences between cultures • Intercultural differences in perception • Holistic and analytical cognitive style • Intercultural differences in thinking • Intelligence and its measurement in the context of different cultural environments • Emotions in an intercultural context • Differences in social norms and values • Ethnic identity and its creation • Intercultural communication
