Course objectives
The course describes the methods and tools, which help to efficiently address social problems in socially disadvantaged groups. The course presents the theories, social phenomena and terminology of social work and social education. It also focuses on actual work in social services as part of the tasks of a social worker, social educator, healthcare professional, etc. Legislation, fundraising, planning, assessment and supervisions are some of the topics pertaining to social services in the Czech Republic, which make up the content of the course. Emphasis is put on the major interdisciplinary aspect of social work and social education, giving students a complex view of the use of social field work and community social work in the education of socially disadvantaged groups. The course also involves discussion with experts from social field work and community social work.
Learning outcomes
The student will learn the ethical principles of field social work and the code of ethics of a social worker in the context of a case study. Students will be able to create case studies of a social case in the field of field and community social work. Students will understand the issues of field social work. Students will be familiar with the topic of community work and the topic of a community project.
Syllabus
  • 1. History of field and community social work in our country and abroad. Social work as a helping profession. 2. The current crisis of the welfare state. Mechanisms and actors of social work in social services (quality standards of social services). 3. Theory and definition of social exclusion in the Czech Republic and abroad. Residents at risk of social exclusion, their patterns and strategies of behavior. 4. Roma living in socially excluded localities as a target group of field and community work. 5. Structure of direct work with target groups. Social work with the individual, family, community. 6. Children and youth endangered socially pathological phenomena. Field work and prevention of crime and addiction in risk groups (streetwork). 7. The structure of the work of a social worker with the community, his professional prerequisites and competencies. SWOT analysis of the community. Project activity, fundraising, networking. 8. Socio-pedagogical activation of individuals, families with children and communities living in socially excluded localities. Examples of good practice. 9. Organizational, economic and professional aspects of community social work. Community planning of social services as a tool of effective social policy of the state.
