Prerequisites
The purpose of the course is to acquire basic ability to navigate the discipline, gain an idea about the content of gerontagogy and its meaning for the society. Capture the relationship between gerontagogy and activation of the elderly. Gain knowledge of the current trends in gerontagogy and of ways of applying gerontagogy in practice.

Course objectives
• define gerontagogy in terms of the current situation in the society (ageing society), characterise the difference between gerontagogy, geriatrics and gerontology • define old age as a social phenomenon • describe and characterise selected topics of the gerontagogy, psychology, philosophy and sociology of age and ageing • gain a basic idea of activation of the elderly, ageism, situation of seniors in institutions and in families • navigate the full extent of practical gerontagogy • present a selected topic of gerontagogy, team work

Syllabus
  • Seniors in families, presentation of good practice – cohabitation of different generations, possibilities of support within the social system. Seniors committed to institutions. Partner relationships and sexual life of the elderly. New trends in senior educations. Seniors and the society, preparation for old age, education of seniors. Ageism, causes and consequences. Senior clubs, seniors at universities. Activation of seniors, practical application. Seniors in the media, in films, in literature.

Assessment methods
The students will study for an exam using recommended sources. A part of the lessons is team work; the students will prepare a topic which they will present and reflect upon during the seminars.
