Course objectives
The aim of the course is to look at special education in international perspectives. The students have the possibility to meet international experts and learn the situation in different countries. How is the situation in other countries? What are the attitudes, approaches, the current issues in different countries? How does the education and the support of people with disabilities and disadvantages and of the pedagogues in other countries look like?
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will:
- be able to describe the situation in different countries,
- reflect the new information and compare it with the situation in their own country,
- be aware of the differences across the world,
- be able to think about different factors that influent the life of children, youth and adult people with disabilities and disadvantage (education, work, family etc.)
Syllabus
  • The course offers different topics according to the lecturers.
  • The course provides a preview of the situation in different countries. It focuses the education at school but also the education at the universities (preparing for work with people with disabilities and disadvantage), support of people with disabilities and their families in different life periods, work, communication, multicultural aspects, social inclusion, legislative framework, social systems etc.
Teaching methods
lecture, workshop, pair and group discussion, discussion of students and experts, work with case studies
Assessment methods
To succesfully pass the course, the student has to:
- Attend min. 2 lectures or workshops.

- Write a report in English about each visited lecture / workshop. The structure of the report:
+ the content of the lecture / workshop,
+ on the situation in his/her country of origin and
+ benefits for the study and/or for own profession;

- The reports from lectures / workshops (450-700 words per lecture / workshop) must be uploaded to the homework vaults until 9th June 2024;
- The students receive feedback from the teachers.
