Course objectives
The students will teoretically learn the problematic of persons with dual sensory impairment, especially with an emphasis on the possibilities of communication of these persons. They will learn basics of some communicative forms and some of them they will try to use. The students will be able to propose the procedures in the education of children and pupils with deafblindness and they will be able to imagine the development of their communication competences through the different communication forms. The students will learn the theory and practice of the communication competences development by the persons with acquired and inborn deafblindness. The will use the skills acquired until this time and will learn to combinate various approaches according to the grade of sight and hearing by the children with deafblindness.
Learning outcomes
- Students will focus on the issue of care for people with dual sensory impairment, especially with an emphasis on the possibilities of communication of these persons. - Students will learn practical basics of some forms of communication and others will try. - Students will be able to design procedures for the education of children and pupils with deafblindness and will be able to choose appropriate strategies for developing the communication skills of deafblind people.

  • Definition of deafblindness. Classification and etiology of deafblindness. The consequences of deafblindness. System of comprehensive care for a person with deafblindness. Educational options for children and pupils with deafblindness. Communication systems for people with deafblindness. Development of communication skills in children with congenital deafblindness. Organization of people with deafblindness.
