Prerequisites
The English course for intermediate students (Level B2) who can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc., who can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest, and can read texts and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Course objectives
In this compulsorily-optional Level B2 English Course, the students will consolidate their language skills from bachelor foreign language course (Level B1), and will learn some selected academic skills (key words, summary, comments, supporting arguments, discussion, etc.) in English. Successful students will be credited for active participation in the lessons, for oral and written presentations, incl. a summary presentation, plus passing a Final Test at the end of the semester (65% pass).

  • Consultation 1 (12.10.2007) Room 1 (PdF, Poříčí 7) Placement Test (Level B1): Reading comprehension test. Expressing the opinion in writing. Consultation 2 (16.11.2007) Text 12. Reading comprehension sheets to be submitted to ODEVZDAVARNA by 15.11.2007 Consultation 3 (23.11.2007) Essay presentations. Text 19. (Text 19 Reading comprehension sheets to be submitted to ODEVZDAVARNA by 22.11.2007. Essays to be submitted to ODEVZDAVARNA by 22.11.2007) Consultation 4 (7.12.2007) Essay presentations. Text 5 (Text 5 Reading comprehension sheets to be submitted to ODEVZDAVARNA by 6.12.2007) Consultation 5 (25.1.2008) Final test (Analysis of the assigned Texts 12, 19, 7 in writing) Credit requirements: 1. Attendance: compulsory 2. Active participation 3. Texts 12, 19, 5 (Analýza odborného anglického textu. MU 2006, ISBN 80-210-3967-1) Reading comprehension sheets for particular texts are available in IS MUNI Studijní materiály (Studijní materiály předmětu PedF SP4MK CJAN) 4. Mini-essay (30% of the final mark) Length: 250 – 300 words, double spacing Deadline: 22 November. To be submitted to IS MUNI Odevzdávárna Topics: a) Approach to pupils/students with learning difficulties b) Educational methods and integration of students with mental/physical disabilities/impairment c) Teacher training of special teachers 5. Final test: On 25th January 2008 (70% of the final mark) Analysis of the assigned texts 12, 19, 7 in writing (paraphrasing, giving a summary, expressing the opinion) and vocabulary awareness. Oral and written presentations during the semester. The student who has not completed continuous assessmenst during the particular semester will not be allowed to take the Final Test! (Student, který nemá splněné průběžné úkoly z jednotlivých témat v rámci daného semestru, nemůže skládat zkoušku z tohoto předmětu!)

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Level B2 Practical language course. Credit/Exam requirements: 1. Attendance – compulsory 2. Active participation 3. Completed Reading Comprehension Sheets (Texts 12, 19, 5) to be submitted to IS MUNI Odevzdávárna. Text 12 by 15th November; Text 19 by 22nd November; Text 7 by 6th December. 4. Mini-essay (30% of the final mark) Length: 250 – 300 words; double spacing Deadline: 22 November; to be submitted to IS MUNI Odevzdávárna 5. Final test (25.1.2008). Analysis of the assigned texts 12, 19, 7 in writing. Paraphrasing, giving a summary, expressing the opinion and vocabulary awareness. Pass limit 65%. Pro ukončení předmětu jsou předepsány v semestru průběžné kontroly (ustni prezentace, pisemne ukoly, atd.), jejichž výsledky jsou započítávány do závěrečného hodnocení. Student, který nemá splněné průběžné úkoly z jednotlivých témat v rámci daného semestru, nemůže skládat zkoušku z tohoto předmětu!
