Course objectives
The student will acquire basic konwledge of the diagnostics of hearing impairment and will be oriented in the problematics of diagnostics process, the student will get a knowledge of diagnostics of hearing impairment by work with children in school age, diagnostic methods used in the diagnostics of hearing impairment. The student will learn the knowledge ofspecial educational counceling in this age category. At the end of the course student should be able to understand communication forms of peopele with hearing impairment. After completing this course, student will be able to define the specifics of care for people with hearing impaired from birth to end of life. Student will be able to describe the specifics and conditions for the acquisition of the Czech language for the deaf people and will be able to describe aids for persons with hearing disabilities. Student will be able to characterize the possibility of early intervention and progress; student will be able to describe the structure of comprehensive care for people with hearing disabilities; education System; employment opportunities; It will also be acquainted with the different visual-motor communication systems; will know the possibilities of translation for the people with hearing disabilities. Students will continue to focus on the care of people with dual sensory disability, including the possibility of communication.
Syllabus
  • Methods of diagnostics of hearing impairment. Interdisciplinary cooperation. Tools and apparatuses, tests and methods used in testing. Counceling, SPC. Psychological peculiarities of people with hearing disabilities, principles and work methods, various ways of commmunication, language competences of the people with hearing impairment, technical aids, reeducation of hearing and speech of children and adults with hearing disorders, early intervention, specifics of work with people with hearing impairment and deaf people, educational proces of hearing impaired children, condition of integration, inclusion, employ of hearing impaired, sign language, interpreting, hearing impairment and additional handicap, special care of deafblind people. At the end of the course student should be able to understand following terminology: sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics aspects of communication hearing impaired people, sign language in the Deaf community, features of natural language, phonetics and phonology of sign language. On successful completion of the course student will be also able to understand issue of interpreting to sign language and will be familiar with The ethics code of sign language interpreters. Student will be informed about communication forms of deafblind people.
