Course objectives
The student will deepen knowledge and skills acquired in the bachelor study. After completion of this course the student will be able to focus on specific areas of life of individuals with hearing impairement; diagnostics possibilities; treatment and compensation for hearing loss (focusing on tinnitus and presbyakusis); will be able to substantiate the difficulties in reading comprehension for hearing impaired and to know the specifics of writing skills of hearing-impaired; will focus on compensation of hearing loss (hearing aids, cochlear implant, implant tribal) and to specify hearing aids used by hearing impaired; will be able to know specifics of care and communication for persons with hearing disabilities and other associated disabilities (autism, specific learning disabilities, visual disability, mental disability) and will be familiar with the legislative provisions relating to the field of the scientific category of hearing impairment.
Syllabus
  • Terminology in the scientific category of hearing impairment, hearing disorders, classification, prevention, individual speciality, history of care of people with hearing impairment, psychological peculiarities of people with hearing disabilities, principles and work methods, technical aids, development of vocabulary, development of reading skills, lipreading, finger spelling, conditions and acoustic aspects of speech, modulation factors, reeducation of hearing and speech of children and adults with hearing disorders, instruments and aid, various ways of commmunication, sign language, interpreting, total communication, bilingual methods, specifics of work with people with hearing impairment and deaf people, early intervention, educational proces of hearing impaired children, condition of integration, employ of hearing impaired, special care of deafblind people.
