Course objectives
The aim of the course is to wider student´s knowledge about intervention in individuals with visual impairment and acquaint special diagnostics and supportive methods of work. Furthermore, present issues of provided support and care from early age to adulthood. To be able to combine knowledge from other fields - education of individuals with mental/physical/hearing impairment, speech disorders and other medical fields (ophtalmology, neurology, ENT and phoniatrics.
Syllabus
  • Basic syllabus: Development of society approach to individuals with visual impairment from the historical perspective. Paradigms in education of individuals with visual impairment. Characteristics of psychomotor development of individuals with visual impairment from the developmental stages defined by Erikson and Piaget. Remediation methods and compensation in education of individuals with visual impairment. Education of individuals with visual impairment. Non-governmental sector as a part of comprehensive rehabilitation in individuals with visual impairment (early intervention, Tyfloservs, Tyflocentrum, SONS, LORM) Old age in individuals with visual impairment and their activization. Specialized sylabus: Early intervention in children with visual impairment. Cooperation with family of child with visual impairment. Binocular disorders in preschool children, remediation. Education of low-vision and blind students. Visual impairment and combined disability. Education of individuals with deafblindness.

Case study in length of 10 pages with rehabilitation plan (at least 2 pages). Course will be taught in two semesters.
