Course objectives
The aim of the course is to widen student´s knowledge about intervention in individuals with physical impairment and to acquire special diagnostics and supportive methods of work. Furthermore, to understand the system of provided care from early age till adulthood. To be able to combine knowledge from other fields - education of individuals with mental/visual impairment, speech disorders and medical areas (neurology, physiotherapy, orthopedics, psychiatry, ENT, phoniatrics, ophthalmology).
Syllabus
  • Basic syllabus: Development of society attitude to physically impaired individuals. Characterization of individuals with physical impairment. Social dimension of physical impairment. Educational system for individuals with physical impairment, inclusion in the Czech republic. Physical impairment in life phases. Special pedagogical diagnostics in individuals with physical impairment. Therapy in special education care (therapeutic rehabilitation in central motoneuron disorder, ergotherapy, concept of basal stimulation, hippotherapy etc.). Specialized syllabus: Characteristics of youth with chronical illness (epilepsy, alergy, asthma) and their influence on education of children and youth, their profession and quality of life. Cerebral palsy, etiology, characteristics, forms. Cerebral palsy as combined disability, characteristics (motion impairment with associated mental disability, epilepsy, sensory impairment, communication abilities). Brain injuries from medical and pedagogical point of view. Degenerative muscular disorders, Duchenn progresive muscular dystropyhy.

Assessment methods
Process of seminar thesis in the lenght of 10 - 15 pages concerning course syllabus topics - one from basic and one from specialized syllabus. The course will be taught in 2 semesters.
