Course objectives
Student will be provided by basic information on assessment of hearing impairments and methods of assessment, possible ways of cooperation between a special needs teacher and other professionals. Student will be provided by basic knowledge of the assessment of eye diseases and their functional effects, assessment methods, low vision therapy and the profession of low vision therapists, the ways of multidisciplinary approach with the aim to the assessment of the impact of visual impairment and other specific skills of the persons with visual impairments. Požadavky budou upřesněny na začátku semestru.
Syllabus
  • Counselling for persons with special education needs in the Czech Republic, current legislation, assessment of hearing impairments, hearing aids Educational and social counselling for persons with visual impairments. Complex assessment of people with visual impairments. Multidisciplinary approach and multidisciplinary team within assessment process. Low vision therapy and the assessment of visual functions. The assessment of other specific areas of children, students and adults with visual impairments. Standardized and nonstandardized test in the assessment of the visually impaired people according to the assessed areas.

Assessment methods
Case study of a child with hearing impairment, Comprehensive report (2-3 pages) about possibilities of early assessment and further care for children with hearing impairments in the Czech Republic. Oral exam or Written test (it is necessary to successfully cope with 75% correct answers). Case study of a child with visual impairment with regard to the areas of cognitive funkctions.
