Course objectives
The goal of the course is to adopt the current situation in the area of education of pupils with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and Down syndrome, and education of these pupils.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course student will be able to:
-have a general knowledge from the area of pedagogy of people with intellectual disabilities;
- have a general knowledge from the area of pedagogy of people with autism spectrum disorders;
- apply the approaches to the education and upbringing of children and pupils with autism spectrum disorders and Down syndrome;
- control of work with pupils with autism spectrum disorders at the level of teaching assistant.

  • 1. Characteristics of children with intellectual disabilities. 2. Education and inclusive approaches. 3. Community care for people with intellectual disabilities. Sheltered housing for people with intellectual disabilities. 4. Autism spectrum disorders (ASD). 5. Down syndrome (DS).

Assessment methods
Completing given tasks and tests. Active participation in the class (80 %). The written test and the oral exam, for successful completion of this course is required 70 % of correct answers
