Course objectives
Offering space for the development of basic communication strategies in crisis intervention
Transfer of knowledge in the field of basics of crisis intervention and telephone crisis intervention
Stimulating the development of individual competencies and skills of each participant - usable in direct work with various specific target groups
Learning outcomes
Understanding of counseling process with a person in crisis
preparing students for everyday practice in a wide range of social services
Application of crisis intervention methods
Skills for work with client - telephone crisis intervention and face-to-face crisis intervention
Motivation to educate oneself in useful strategies for effective communication with clients, their families and a wider network of relationships

  • Definition of crisis intervention (CI) and telephone crisis intervention
  • Definition of crisis, development of crisis situations, phases of crisis, symptoms of crisis, estimation of crisis severity, types of crises
  • Types of assistance in crisis situations, principles and phases of crisis intervention
  • Techniques of interviewing, start and end of contact
  • Verbal and nonverbal communication
  • Working with emotions in CI, using working with the body in CI
  • Dealing with an anxious client, dealing with an aggressive client, self-defense in CI
  • Working with emotions in telephone contact - crying, aggression, panic attack
  • Crisis intervention of children and adolescents
  • Crisis intervention of seniors
  • Family and generational crises, crisis of partnerships - work with the family in CI, developmental crises
  • Sexual issues, psychopathology, addictions
  • Trauma, victims of crime, domestic violence, CAN syndrome
  • Working with a suicidal client, the issue of mourning and dying
  • Ethical issues in CI
  • Burnout syndrome prevention, psychohygiene, supervision, intervision
