Course objectives
The aim of the course is to get acquainted with the field of special education of visually impaired at the Bachelor's degree level, focusing on the impact of visual impairment on quality of life. Learning outcomes of the course unit will acquaint students with the possibilities of counseling and intervention for persons with visual impairment (VI) in individual age periods.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- Identify and summarize important areas of impaired vision on the quality of life of a person by age;
- identify and describe current possibilities of support, counseling and intervention with a focus on age;
- Describe the factors that influence the selection of special aids for managing independent living;
- Apply in practice basic recommendations for accompanying a person with visual impairment and recommendations for independent mobility of a person with severe vision impairment;
Syllabus
  • 1. The target group of people with visual impairment. Special pedagogical diagnostics for children and pupils with visual impairment.
  • 2. A child with visual impairment at school age. Specifics of SEN support for these pupils, counseling, measures.
  • 3. Special aids for the visually impaired and work with them. The use of computer technology in the education of visually impaired students.
  • 4. Pre-professional and professional training of pupils with visual impairment - professional counseling.
  • 5. Communication of visually impaired people - teaching Braille and its notation. Access to information.
  • 6. Counseling - providers of social services and their offer for people older than 15 years. Quality of life of persons with visual impairment.
  • 7. Multiple disability - counseling and intervention. Deafblindness.
  • 8. Mobility of visually impaired people - counseling and aids.
